Bespoke kitchens and joinery in a listed building

Listed properties are one of our specialities, and with such a rich heritage in and around Worcestershire, we find many of them.

These properties elude charm and character, and are well suited for the quintessential traditional style kitchen and bespoke joinery. We’ve highlighted 5 key considerations in a listed building to take into account, and how we at Church Farm Kitchens can help to make the kitchen renovation effortless.

1.     Traditional design

This might seem obvious, but choosing a designer or builder that is sympathetic to older properties is a good start. At Church Farm Kitchen, we design and make our furniture in a converted barn surrounded by the countryside, which enables us to excel at handcrafting traditional styles kitchens for the country homes. Although a shaker style kitchen might seem a plain choice, we can still offer a variety of styles to add elegant detail to give your kitchen character to match your home.

2.     Uneven walls

Many of us have driven past a beautiful black and white property, to see the walls leaning at an unusual angle due to natural wear and tear. For many it can be a challenge making furniture fit, but with a joinery, handmade kitchen you can avoid the obvious fillers. By being able to make the cabinets to a made to measure size and scribing them neatly to the wall, we will make your kitchen fit perfectly no matter what angle.

3.     Flooring

This is a huge point to consider if you are thinking of changing your floors. For a listed property, you cant be certain what you will find underneath until you start the process. From concrete rotting beams, to damp, we have seen it all and can easily overcome any problem with our expert builders. Our joinery shop can also adapt any units and doors, so there are no costly surprises. As we make our own cabinets, these can also be seamlessly adjusted if the floor itself might not be level either!

4.     Ceiling heights

Listed buildings tend to have lower ceilings, with beautiful supporting beams. These are features that we love to work with, keeping the character of the property. Having the flexibility of adjusting heights, depths and widths, we make sure you can have exactly what you want, and making sure it enhances the pieces in your home.

5.     More than just kitchens

These characterful properties need a lot of care to keep them at their best. Our handcrafted joinery is on hand to help with more than just kitchens with bespoke wooden windows, doors and porches, and our builders are specialists with roofs, renders and conversions. So whatever the level of work, we can help you with your project from the start to the end.
