How to add modern kitchen touches to an old property?
Whether you are in the middle of the countryside, or in an established town house, these older homes want kitchens that are sympathetic to the houses character, without aging them more. Here we explore way to add modern touches to your kitchen design, that can be subtly used in these beautiful homes.
1. Shaker style:
This is the usual ‘go to’ for many homes, especially old farmhouses or listed buildings. However, by reducing the size of the shaker front, and with a slimmer ovolo bead that we can personally offer, changes what could be a chunky style door, to more elegant and refined furniture.
2. Colours
Many homes we work on have characterful floors and beams, which you don’t want to hide. However, you might want to avoid matching these colours as this can make the room feel very dark. Choosing a lighter porcelain shade can make the accents of the property stand out, whilst also giving your kitchen a brighter look. We tend to follow Zoffany paints for inspiration for well matched shades.
3. Ash painted doors
Whilst still offering the choices of other woods, we still find Ash to be a strong contender for country kitchens. Ash has a very subtle grain, that adds to these older properties, without it being too heavy. This subtle grain also adds some texture to the kitchen design, giving it a distinctive feel.
4. Worktops
There are so many choices of worktops, but even using the slim Dekton, which is only 20mm thick, can give a slightly modern edge to a very traditional kitchen. This worktop has many beautiful, soft patterns whilst also being extremely beneficial with stain, heat and cut proof abilities.
5. Bespoke choices
With our own onsite joinery shop and offering handmade kitchens, means that we can always find ways to incorporate your modern living in the traditional style home. Whether its creative ways to store your devices, adding more lighting into cabinets or installing more modern cooking devices, we will work with you to find ways to add the modern touches to your home.
