2025 Kitchen Island trends

Kitchen Islands has played a prominent feature in many kitchens, and I remember my parents having one 20 years ago!

The kitchen island is constantly evolving, and we highlight some of the key island trends for 2025:

Seating:

Islands with seating is not in itself new, but how the seating is designed is now becoming an integral part of the island design. Instead of just two bar stools perched on the end with an overhang, the trend is now focusing on finding innovative ways to separate the functional food prep of the island with the social, entertaining side. This can be done with differing materials, rounding off surfaces or different levels for an island that serves two functions whilst also being a beautiful statement piece.

Lighting:

With kitchen islands being such a feature in the room, adding lighting to them is a growing trend that always gives it that extra ‘wow’ feature. This can be attained in so many ways, including under the surface, in the plinths or even in the quartz! At Church Farm Kitchens, you will find alight up oak foot rail under ours, to give it that extraordinary feature. We love lighting as it can soften a space, and give some functional evening lighting when the kitchen usage has changed from cooking to entertaining.

Dog beds

Having had dogs for many years, one of the biggest questions is ‘where is the dog bed going to go’. Our beloved pets love to be near their owners, and being able to integrate their rest space with your kitchen space is always a win. No more tripping over the dogs in front of the AGA!

Wine fridges

You’ve got the beautiful curved social seating, some ambient lighting for the evening, to all be enjoyed with dinner and a few glasses of wine. For 2025 we are seeing a growing trend for wine fridges to take residency in the island, both due to it being a strategic location, but it also adds a luxury design feature.

So, from 20 years ago where it was considered more of a food prep area, we have seen how much kitchen islands have evolved and how they are still a much desired feature in a kitchen. Ultimately, a kitchen island should be made around your needs and your lifestyle. We are always delighted that at Church Farm Kitchens we can offer handmade and handcrafted kitchens and offer a bespoke kitchen design, tailored for you.
