Lighting up your kitchen space

Lighting is now one of the most important factors to consider when designing your kitchen. Its become more than just a working element, but one to create ambience that can easily transform a kitchen from afunctional space to a social one. With the increase of bespoke kitchen designs, and open plan kitchen/dining, there are now bespoke lighting options to create many different results.

These are our top 5 lighting recommendations for your kitchen design

1.     Slim lighting with no profile

We use 6mm wide strip lighting in our larders and glass units. This strip lighting doesn’t have to be encased in a profile, and is seamlessly routered in by our workshop so it fits perfectly in. This makes the lighting look elegant, but also not intrusive.

2.     Bluetooth lighting

Want to have it closer to your unit instead of walking across the room? These new Bluetooth switches can also be flush fitted into the unit, and positioned anywhere in the room. What’s more, they can change the colour from cool to warm and even dim the lights up or down. A single switch, but with so much use.

3.     Wall units

It’s practically a necessity to have lighting under your wall units as this usually serves as functional space for preparing food. But the lighting you choose can change the feel. We recommend using a strip light, to give more of a gentle glow rather than a spot light in your kitchen.

4.     Dimmer lights

As we are seeing the kitchen functionality change in the day from a place to cook, to then a place to eat and sometimes to socialise, the ability to dim your lights is a brilliant function to use to seamlessly move from one kitchen operation to another. Whilst cooking you may prefer brighter lights, but within a few seconds you can change the atmosphere and become a calming place to eat.

5.     Plinth lighting

Plinth lighting is one that can be both functional and aesthetical too, especially for open plan kitchen dining. It’s a way that can easily light up where you are walking without having to put the main lights on, thereby keeping the ambience in the room but also allowing you to easily find your way to the wine fridge.
